AI Ready RVA runs on volunteers. That is not a modest way of describing a staffed organization. Committee chairs, cohort leaders, event crews, instructors, and mentors are volunteers, and the organization does not function without them.
Here is what is actually needed.
Committee service is the deepest form of involvement. Committees cover education, development, governance, community programs, marketing, and technology. They meet monthly, set direction, and own outcomes. If you have professional expertise in any of those areas, this is where it does the most good.
Cohort leadership means running an industry cohort in your field. You do not need to be the most advanced AI user in your industry. You need to be willing to convene people and keep the conversation useful. We provide structure, venue support, and promotion.
Event support covers setup, registration, check-in, hosting, and breakdown. It takes a few hours, it requires no preparation, and it is the easiest way to meet people quickly if you are new to the community.
Teaching and mentoring covers workshop instruction, student bootcamp support, and one-on-one mentoring for career changers. Teacher and student programming is where volunteer hours have the longest tail.
Speaking and content covers podcast appearances, panel participation, writing for the blog, and reviewing submissions.
A few hours a month is genuinely enough. Most of our most valuable volunteers give exactly that.
